“In the end, we’ll all become stories.”– Margaret Atwood
Screening across Canada on Tuesday, September 10th
My first encounter with Margaret Atwood’s work was reading The Handmaid’s Tale for one of my English classes in high-school. The novel itself had such a great impacted in my life and it was a real eye-opener. At that time, I hadn’t read anything like it before.
Therefore, I can’t wait to see Margaret Atwood: Live in Cinemas presented by Cineplex Events! This amazing production is in celebration of the global publication of The Testaments, Atwood’s highly anticipated sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale.
Broadcast to more than 100 Cineplex theatres across Canada for one night only on Tuesday, September 10th.
Audiences will be treated to an evening in conversation with Atwood. The event will be about the release of the new book and her long and distinguished career. In addition to why she has returned to her seminal story of The Handmaid’s Tale, 34 years after she wrote the original.
Samira Ahmed, a BBC journalist and another favourite author of mine, will be interviewing Atwood about her remarkable career, her diverse range of works and why she has returned to her handmaid story, 34 years later. This production will be filmed live from the National Theatre in London, England.
In her brilliant sequel, Atwood said that she answers the questions that have frustrated her readers for decades. The Testaments picks up the story fifteen years after Offred stepped into the unknown, with the explosive testaments of three female narrators from Gilead.
I am very proud that women’s rights, female empowerment and resistance are at the core of Atwood’s story. Her work is also in partnership with Equality Now. These events will take on the issues faced by women in today’s world with vivid imagination and unflinching clarity.
What is your favourite Margaret Atwood novel? If you are a fan of Atwood’s work, I highly recommend checking out if this is playing at your local Cineplex.
