‘Tis the season to be jolly! It’s no doubt that the holidays are a busy time for all.

Some of my favourite traditions include sitting by the fireplace surrounded by my family, drinking hot cocoa and sharing stories. Another tradition is shopping around local stores with my grandma, looking for the perfect gifts to give & all the holiday movies we binge-watch together!

Whatever our holiday traditions, we always seem to be on-the-go. For those living with diabetes, it can be a difficult time to stay on top of effective diabetes management.
As the primary caretaker for my grandma, who lives with diabetes, I know first-hand the challenges that come with managing this chronic condition. During the joyous season, it’s important to have the right tools to help check her glucose levels and monitor her health while still enjoying the festivities.
From forgetting to regularly check glucose levels, to sometimes overindulging on holiday sweets (I think we are all guilty of this). To a change in daily routine (especially with the current situation), sometimes managing my grandma’s glucose levels becomes tricky.
This is why, I’m partnering again with Abbott Canada and FreeStyle Libre this holiday season, to educate Canadians, to support the newly diagnosed. To give hope to those who have been managing diabetes for decades.
SUPPORTING MY GRANDMA DURING THE HOLIDAYS:
I know how it’s important to have the right tools to help her check glucose levels and monitor health daily. This is especially important during the holidays, so the FreeStyle Libre flash glucose monitoring system* plays a major role for my grandma to help manage her diabetes during this time of year.
The FreeStyle Libre system gives me peace of mind that my grandma can stay on top of her glucose levels, no matter the time of day or the activity. Learn more about the FreeStyle Libre system at myfreestyle.ca!
Usually, during the holidays my grandma and I have a tradition to go shopping together and visit or host a family get-together. However, due to the current global situation and with my grandmother being in a ‘high risk’ category we have changed up some of our traditions this year.

This year we plan on having a more virtual holiday, with shopping mainly being online and hosting a virtual zoom holiday party.
What are some of your holiday traditions?
